Discolored Water In Cookeville, Due To Water Line Rerouting Project

The relocation of a Cookeville water line has resulted in discolored water in parts of the city’s water system.

Water Quality Control Director Ronnie Kelly said Thursday that the issue occurred after a 30-inch water line had to be shut down for relocation during the 5th Interchange construction project Tuesday.

“This forced all of the water from the water treatment plant through one remaining 30-inch line,” Kelly said. “The increased velocity through this line has disturbed sediment within the line, leading to a slight tint to the water in certain parts of the system.”

Kelly said the department has started taking steps to minimize the disturbance to the water system during the rerouting project.

The rerouted 30-inch water line should be put back into service on Friday.
