Digital Sign, New Banners Planned for Putnam Library

The Putnam County Library is looking to upgrade its exterior with a new digital marquee and new banners.

Library Director Phil Schaller said getting rid of the old signage will display more information about things taking place at the library. Schaller said the library actually wants people to judge a book by its cover in this instance, so they come in to see the work done to renovate the inside.

“If you have a shabby exterior, if you have an older exterior… people might look past it or look beyond it and not look for the meat that’s inside, the good qualities that are inside,” Schaller said. “Renovating your exterior helps bring in people to see the renovated interior.”

Schaller said this is all part of a larger plan to renovate the library that started a few years ago, and there are still plans to renovate other branches. He said a lot of work has gone into upgrades.

“New shelving, some new furnishings, upgraded the children’s library recently and the front lobby,” Schaller said. “Those were some of the big ones.”

Schaller said bids on the new signage will be out until the start of 2021 and will be paid for with the library’s funds. Schaller said there is currently no time frame for completion and there are no cost estimates yet.
