Dekalb County Middle School will soon make improvements to its security protocols.
Director of Schools Patrick Cripps said the improvements are needed because of the school’s design.
“When you first walk into it, it’s kind of an open concept,” Cripps said. “What we are wanting to put in is a vestibule so that there will be a check-in point when you first enter the building.”
Cripps said with school security on everyone’s mind, now is the time to address concerns at the school.
“There’s been a big push with safety, and we see it as a need to protect our students, faculty, and staff,” Cripps said. “We’ve been going around and doing research on our buildings and what we need to do to improve the safety of each building.”
Cripps said there is not yet an estimated cost for the improvements.
“We’re just now taking bids, so it’s depending on the bids and how the budget works,” Cripps said. “It’s just a planning phase at this point.”
Bids for the security improvements open Thursday.
