Dekalb Girls Building Experience In Roster

The Dekalb County Girls Basketball team graduated four key contributors last season and head coach Brandy Alley said she has seen promise and potential in this years’ roster.

Alley is entering her third season as the Tigers head coach. She said the team comes into this season lacking real, game experience. The four seniors that graduated last year, made up most of the starting line-up and Alley said instilling belief into this younger roster has been an emphasis.

“We definitely have a lot of younger guys,” Alley said. “We’ve spent a lot of time this summer just believing you’re capable more than you think you are. That is an issue I have fought for a little while, it’s just saying this is my limit and then finding that next step of that limit.”

This off season, the Tigers added four freshman to the roster and two former players are returning to the team for their senior seasons. Alley said fans can expect tons of fresh faces playing big minutes for Dekalb County, she noted getting them prepared for the bright lights is of the upmost importance.

“A lot of it is just going as hard as we possibly can,” Alley said. “Finding their comfort level and taking it up a notch and just continuously pushing what is comfortable. And the more they know they can get through that, the better they are in the long run.”

Alley said she was impressed with the team’s intensity when it came to attacking pre-season workouts. She also noted that from top to bottom her roster is filled with high character players.

Junior Chloe Vanvranken and senior Avery Agee have shown themselves to be the top leaders for this team according to Alley. She said both bring a verteran prescence to the team and noted Agee is kind of like an assistant coach at this point in her career.

“She has remarkably stepped up in how she’s leading,” Alley said. “She’s always said the right things, but she’s finding a good way to bring it to the new guys who are inexperienced.”

Dekalb County girls’ basketball open their season up November 19th against Wilson Central on the road.
