The Dekalb County Planning Commission is looking for public comment on its updated subdivision regulations.
The updates include a set minimum of residential lots requiring a fire hydrant and increasing the distances between them. Dekalb County Community Planner Tommy Lee said the updates will make developing properties easier.
“We found we needed to update to align with the current development trends and make things easier for folks trying to develop their property,” Lee said. “While still ensuring quality residential development.”
If the new regulations pass, all residential lots under five acres must be connected to a county or state road. Lee said the residential growth in Dekalb County has been steady the past 10 years.
“It has maintained over the years,” Lee said. “When I first started was right in the middle of the 2009 recession. We saw a steep decline, but it has slowly raised the past 10 years,”
Residents can voice concerns or thoughts on August 10th at the planning commission meeting in the basement of the Dekalb County Courthouse. Lee said after the public hearing, the commission will consider amending the regulations.
