DeKalb Co. Schools To Conduct Facilities Study

The DeKalb County Board of Education has hired Uplands Design Group to conduct a county-wide facilities study.

Director of Schools Patrick Cripps said the study will look at the growth of the county and the condition of current school facilities.

“Our buildings in our schools system are getting some age on them and we have grown over the last few years,” Cripps said. “We are just running out of capacity to hold our students and the rooms available for our students and teachers as well.”

The county and board of education have considered building a new school for several months. One major concern in Smithville Elementary. That facility is the oldest existing school building and is experiencing overcrowding issues.

Uplands Design Group will will present the study to the board of education within the next twelve weeks.
