Deadline To Register For August Election Comes Tuesday

The registration deadline to vote in the August election comes next Tuesday.

Pickett County Election Administrator Tim Clark said it just takes five minutes to become a registered voter.

“It is very easy,” Clark said. “They can go online and register to vote online. They can come to the local election office and register to vote. They can also mail in their application.”

Clark said he has already seen an uptick of voter applications this week as the deadline approaches. Clark said all a person needs is proof of residency and a photo I.D.

“It goes to the state, and then, the state sends out the registrations to each county the registration belongs to,” Clark said. “Then we will process them each day and mail them a voter registration card.”

Clark said in Pickett County, county offices, Byrdstown officials and school board members will be on the ballot.

“I would just encourage everybody to register to vote and get out there and vote,” Clark said.

In order to register, you must be a U.S. citizen, be 18-years-old and a resident of Tennessee. You can visit govote.tn.gov for more information.
