Dates Set For State Senate Special Elections

State officials have set a date for the special elections to fill the vacancy in the 17th Senatorial district.

Governor Bill Haslam issued a writ of election today setting the primary date for November 7th and the general election for December 19th.

“It’s important to know that this is their opportunity to select an interim successor to Senator Beavers,” DeKalb County Election Administrator Dennis Stanley said. “This person will be serving in the State Senate for one year and of course any vacancy falls back into the regular election cycle, which begins in August of 2018.”

Early voting for the primary election will be held from October 18th through November 2nd. Early voting for the general election will run from November 29th through December 14th.

The qualifying deadline for candidates is set for Noon September 28th and the last day to register to vote will be October 10th.

Last month Mae Beavers resigned from her Senate seat to focus on her campaign for Governor.
