Bids for roof replacement at the current Park View School came in just around budget estimations at $1.75 million.
Deputy Director Tim Martin said the replacement serves as the first step in renovations at the current building. He said once the new Park View School is completed, they want the current school to serve another purpose.
“One of the biggest things that we’ve talked about is using it for Pre-K students but in order to do that we have to preserve it,” Martin said. “And there’s just a lot of issues with that roof. It’s had a lot of leaks and water will ruin any building. So we want to get that part taken care of first.”
Martin said the next step will be to decide when the crews are actually able to start the work. He said that depends on when they are able to actually get materials.
Martin said the money for the roof replacement will come out of the remaining ESSER funding. He said that way, it should not affect the county’s budget for a project with a large price tag. Martin said those dollars must be spent and the project completed by June 2024.
