Cumberland’s 2nd Annual Heritage Festival Saturday

The second annual Heritage Festival in Cumberland County is set for Saturday at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds.

Founder Ralph Hofknecht said he wants to bring together speakers, musicians and historical reenactments. Hofknecht said highlighting the foundation of Cumberland County, will lead to more kids caring about the counties future.

“The knowledge of farming, mining, all various trades and endeavors in a rural community should be preserved, not neglected and not allowed to be lost for future generations,” Hofknecht said.

Hofknecht said event participation might change this year. However, Hofknecht said he hopes for bee keepers, indigenous peoples and craftsmen like last years Heritage Festival.

“It all depends on who responds, because the response may not be the same,” Hofknecht said.

The inspiration, Hofknecht said comes from attending Pioneer Day in Cumberland County when he first moved to the area. This event is sponsored by local business leaders, Hofknecht said. The Cumberland County Heritage Festival is set to happen from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM at the Community Complex Center on the fairgrounds. This is a free event, but Hofknecht said donations are welcome.
