Cumberland County School Board will transfer the land under the Homestead Tower to the county.
The 0.7 acres directly around the tower was part of a 99-year lease. The county will consider the transfer once it discovers the condition of the facility, according to the school system’s attorney.
Ownership of the tower and the land around it has been up for debate in recent weeks. Cumberland County, the school system, the US government, and the historical society all have some claim to the land. Talks about historical uses for the tower and facility have been on hold until the issues could be cleared up.
