Cumberland Hosting Veterans Parade Saturday

Cumberland County veterans will be honored with a parade Saturday in Crossville.

Veterans Parade Committee Member Alan Baker said this is the fifth straight year the parade will take place. He said the parade is something the community looks forward to. Baker said they have the parade on Saturday rather than Veterans Day so kids can attend the parade.

“It’s important to us as veterans that children understand the concept of service to the country and that it isn’t all just fun and games,” Baker said. “And that there are burdens and sufferings that are put on the families of those who served.”

Baker said exposing children to what being a veteran means is another way of serving the community. Baker said he looks forward to the parade as it will have many different veteran organizations and marching bands celebrating and honoring the veterans in Cumberland County.

“It’s pretty straightforward it’s your typical route that people are used to in Crossville,” Baker said. “People who are not familiar with parades in Crossville the best place to view it is on Main Street in Crossville sort of downtown somewhere near the courthouse in that area.”

The parade will start across from Cumberland County High School and end at Crossville Church of Christ. The parade will begin at 10am on Saturday, November 2nd rain or shine. Baker said they received some sponsorships and will be offering a free lunch for veterans after the parade.
