Cumberland County To Conduct Landfill Maintenance

Cumberland County commissioners have approved a budget amendment for conducting repairs and maintenance at two previously closed landfills.

County Mayor Allen Foster said the county will spend nearly $63,000 to address the issues.

“We don’t have our own landfill anymore, but we are in post-closure so the state monitors those,” Foster said. “Anytime there’s an issue that the state finds during their inspections, we are required and happy to get those items addressed.”

Foster said one of the landfills closed about 20 years ago and the other within the last decade. He said TDEC will routinely inspect the landfills and must continue to do so for the next 30 years or so.

Foster said a company has contracted with the county to take garbage to a landfill outside of the county.

County commissioners approved the $62,873 budget amendment earlier this week.
