A new piece of machinery purchased by Cumberland Container will be only the second of its type in Tennessee and the 80th in the country.
Cumberland Container Director Mark Jared said workers began installing the new Baysek flatbed die cutter last week.
“It’s a pretty unique machine,” Jared said. “We believe that it will be able to take us to another level and provide additional services for our customers and new products for them to develop.”
Jared said he expects the new machine to increase production at the Monterey-based company.
“We have multiple machines and this adds a new dimension that we had nothing close to before,” Jared said. “We will begin training next week and be ready to start production.”
Jared said the machine gives the company the capacity to do intricate die cuts for boxes.
This marks the company’s second major purchase in less than a year. In December, the company began using a BCS AutoBox. That machine is capable of automatically changing styles and sizes, reducing the need for tooling and manual set ups.
“Over the past couple of years, Cumberland Container has really been in a growth mode,” Jared said. “We have been and continue to hire new employees. This will not be a big catalyst towards new employment, but there are plenty of jobs here for people who are interested.”
Cumberland Container produces and ships corrugated boxes within a 200 mile radius of Monterey. The company is the second oldest business is Monterey and the city’s second largest employer with 85 workers.
