The Cumberland County Commission met Monday and approved a public notice for filling the vacant 6th District county commission seat.
The seat became vacant after the death of Michael Speich last month. Authorities found Speich dead four days after his indictment for charges of sexual battery by an authority figure and providing alcohol to a minor.
The County Commission plans to appoint someone to fill the vacancy during an Aug. 19 meeting. Interested candidates have until Aug. 6 to submit their name to County Mayor Allen Foster.
Cumberland County’s 6th District includes Crab Orchard, Ozone, Pine View, Hebbertsburg, and Grassy Cove.
