Cumberland Commission Approves Contract With New Medical Director

The Cumberland County Commission has appointed Dr. Jim Wojcik as the county’s new medical director.

Wojcik said he wanted to continue work in medicine after retiring as an emergency physician after some 30 years.

“I think our EMS system here does an excellent job, but they haven’t had any updates in medications, protocol adjustments and so on for several years,” Wojcik said. “I plan to review all those and assist them in perhaps implementing new procedures.”

As director, Wojcik will oversee patient care by EMS, ensure compliance and be a liaison between the medical community and the department. Wojcik will also manage incident reports and investigations if necessary.

“Additionally, they have a fairly extensive training program in-house,” Wojik said. “I attend to solicit the assistance of some of the local physicians here to perhaps help assist.”

Wojcik replaces Dr. Mark Fox who has served in the position for many years. The county opened applications for the position last month and moved forward with Wojcik last week.

“Moved to Crossville in 2003,” Wojcik said. “I worked in the emergency department of the Cumberland Medical Center for almost 17 years until my retirement. I wanted to stay involve in medicine and I knew our EMS system here well. I worked with them for almost 17 years.”

The county filled the position through the means of an independent contract. Wojcik’s agreement includes a biweekly payment of $200 until October of 2023.
