Cumberland Co. Wind Event Causes Minor Damage And Injuries

Cumberland County Emergency Services are reporting minor building damages and several downed trees after a high wind event in the Pleasant Hill area Thursday.

EMA Director Travis Cole said the storm caused minor damage to the Pleasant Hill Elementary School. Cole said a tornado has not been confirmed, but damage seems to be tornadic in nature.

Cole said five people are being treated for minor injuries. All students of Pleasant Hill Elementary School have been accounted for. Cole said no buildings have been reported as destroyed.

Cole said road crews are currently clearing debris on Bud Tanner Road. Cole said the storm blew over several trees and blocked Main Street for a short period, but the roadway is now clear for school traffic.

Cole said the storm continued to the north east towards the Mayland community. Cole said residents have reported a possible touchdown in that area along I-40.

Crews are asking all residents to stay clear of the area as damage is being assessed.
