Cumberland Co Road List Process Begins

The Cumberland County Planning Commission has started the process of approving its 2021 county road list.

Each year, the planning commission begins with the previous year’s list and makes additions or subtractions to which roads the county maintains. Planning Director Tommy Lee said only one road was shortened during October’s planning commission meeting.

“It looks like the only change that we had is that we changed the length of one road,” Lee said. “Which is called Cold Springs Road. I do not know what is was before, but it is now 2.70 miles. So that is the only change that we had.”

Lee said the property owner wanted the end of Cold Springs Road to be private property causing the change. The submitted road list will be up for approval during November’s planning commission meeting before going to the environmental committee and county commission.

“We do this every year, and basically the process is in October we submit the 2021 road list for our members to review,” Lee said. “In November, we come back, and if the road list we submitted is up to their satisfaction, then they recommend it to the Cumberland County Environmental Committee. Then in December, the Cumberland County Environmental Committee reviews the road list. If it is up to their sanctification, then the environmental committee recommends it to the county commission.”

Lee said if all groups approve the road list on the first reading, the county commission could have it implemented by January.
