Cumberland Co Receives Clean Audit For Second Straight Year

Cumberland County has received a clean audit for the second year in a row.

Mayor Allen Foster said having no findings is difficult considering the amount of money that flows. Foster said he credits the fiscal responsibility to the county’s financial department.

“It ensures that our tax payer’s money is being spent correctly,” Foster said. “That nobody is doing what they shouldn’t be doing.  Our finance takes care of all those things, and they do a really good job.”

Foster said this is the first time the county has received back-to-back clean audits since he joined county government in 2002.  Foster said having at least one finding is usually easy considering the policies that counties most follow.

“Not many counties get a clean audit each year. Even if you have a finding it doesn’t mean you are a terrible county or you’ve had a bad issue,” Foster said. “You may just have something that they may want to see something different like a rule change. It’s hard to get and very difficult.”

Foster said clean audits start with the working environment between all officials. Foster said department heads work with the finance department each year to provide accurate budgets.
