Cumberland Co. BOE End Special Called Meeting With No Vote On Masks

The Cumberland County Schools Attorney has recommended that the school board should continue enforcing a mask mandate.

The Board of Education met in a special called meeting Wednesday to revisit the topic of mask wearing. Lawyer Earl Patton said if the mask mandate was removed, the school system could be liable.

“It does not make sense to do away with this mask mandate,” Patton said. “When you have state public health officials that are telling you it is the right thing to do. When you have federal officials telling you it is the right thing to do.”

After about 70 minutes of discussion among the board, the meeting came to an adjournment with no vote for or against mask wearing.
