Crossville’s special census is about 50-percent complete.
Census canvassers will now be tasked with visiting some 2,218 homes in an effort to complete the census. Census Director Arnold Harbolt said it’s a hefty task to take on before the January 1st deadline to complete the census.
“Most of these are apartment complexes and there are 32 apartment complexes in the city of Crossville with 10 or more apartments in them,” Harbolt said. “That’s a tremendous number of apartments.”
If all goes as planned, Harbolt said he could finish the census by December 17th.
The census is expected to add some 800 people to the city’s population, which would mean more state shared revenue for the city. State shared revenue makes up 7-percent of Crossville’s budget.
Census workers will be visiting homes weekdays and weekends from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
