Auditions for the latest season of Crossville’s Got Talent Benefit take place Tuesday.
Proceeds for Crossville’s Got Talent support Fair Park Senior Center. Event Director Ruth Lucas said the event is instrumental in supporting local seniors. Lucas said that each year the event showcases different types of local talent.
“Last year, the winner of Crossville’s Got Talent was a self-taught juggler and believe you me, he will be on TV one day”” Lucas said. “He’s very good.”
Contestants will audition for three judges. Judges will decide that night who makes it to the final and who does not. Lucas said the contestants will have a chance to win money and other prizes.
“They’re competing, they’d like to win,” Lucas said. “They’d like to be voted as they most talented person in Cumberland county, uh so it is competitive. Nothing really, really, really serious but each person wants to win.”
Lucas said events like this help Fair Parks provide seniors with weekly meals, bingo, line dancing, participating in art and nutrition classes, and building relationships.
“Fair Park is just a valuable asset to the community, to the seniors,” Lucas said. “The group of seniors that go, and were talking about, well 1,233 seniors that have attended since the first of the year. They come to Fair Park Monday through Friday to do a variety of activities free of charge.”
Lucas said the the members at Fair Park show gratitude for this event in many ways and all it does for their senior center.
“The seniors otherwise would be sitting at home maybe by themselves, you can imagine if your at an age where you don’t have a lot to do, you don’t have a lot of friends,” Lucas said.
