The Crossville City council gave the green light Wednesday to seek approval of a Tax Increment Financing program for a 33-acre retail development on North Main Street.
Mayor James Mayberry said the development is a far more in-depth undertaking than the proposed 15 acre retail project on Interstate.
“It’s a bigger development. We’ve been talking to them for probably a year and it’s a lot more complicated,” Mayberry said. “It’s a 33 acre project and there’s a lot more involved in the infrastructure because you’re looking at 33 acres versus 15. It makes a big difference.”
In order to proceed with the project, the city will now be contacting Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster and county commission members for their approval.
If approved by Cumberland County officials, the project will need additional approval from the Industrial Development Board.
The development is known as The Crossings and will be located on the East side of Highway 127, just South of Interstate 40 and the 317 Exit.
