Crossville will begin the interview process in the search for its new police chief after receiving roughly 17 applications for the position.
City Manager Greg Wood said the city will face a tough decision as they sort through the candidates.
“We had a good pool of applicants both internal and from the outside,” Wood said. “Numerous with 30 years of law enforcement experience and quite a few with a Masters-level education. I think that’s a good position to be in because we’ll have a tough choice to make and that’s good for the people of Crossville.”
Wood said the interview process is expected to begin Thursday, Sept. 27 with most of the candidates interviewing that day.
“There’s a few applicants that were not able to make that date,” Wood said. “We’re going to see if we can come up with a makeup date sometime in the first couple of days of October, hopefully having a decision made by the fifth of October and having somebody in place by the end of the month.”
Wood said he’s looking forward to the interview process and officially meeting the police chief applicants.
“Our interim chief, Chris Kendrick, is doing a bang-up job,” Wood said. “The police department’s looking forward to a strong leader to carry them forward and do good things.”
The search for a new police chief comes after former chief Dave Beaty was fired last month. Beaty served the Crossville Police Department for over 30 years.
