The Crossville City Council voted last night to purchase a new ladder and pumper truck for $1.7 million.
City Manager Greg Wood said the ladder truck would provide better firefighting coverage to the city’s taller buildings.
“Especially with the height of the hospital and some of the other issues we have had,” Wood said. “We’ve got some of these new multi-family buildings that are three stories high. The issue with those can be not just necessarily the height, but being able to get a ladder truck close enough.”
The new trucks will replace a 1993 pumper truck and send a 1994 ladder truck to reserve use for the department.
The new trucks are not expected to arrive until sometime next summer.
