Crossville PD Hosting Ladies Handgun Class

The Crossville Police Department will host a Ladies Only Handgun class on Saturday.

Captain Bryan Eckleson says the handgun class is uniquely designed to put women at ease as they learn about different guns.

“We’re using R&R Gun Schools here in Cumberland County,” Eckleson said. “They have a class that is tailored completely to the ladies. That way that don’t feel they’re going to ask something silly or not be afraid to ask questions. A lot of times if they’re with their husbands or significant others they don’t want to be the one that sounds silly by asking a question, so that is taken completely out of it.”

Eckleson said a wide range of topics will be covered in the class.

“Some of the main things that will be discussed is the difference between a revolver and a semi-automatics for people that are unfamiliar,” Eckleson said. “Also, loading and unloading procedures, safe handling, cartridge parts and calibers, how to store the weapon, and how to clean the weapon. All the things you need to know if you’ve never laid hands on a gun before.”

Eckleson said the class is not a handgun carry permit class but a chance for women to become more familiar with handguns, and no outside weapons will be allowed in the class.

The class begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Crossville Police Department. To reserve a space in the class, call Crossville PD at 931-484-7231.
