The City of Crossville continues to discuss ways to enforce truck traffic going down Main Street.
Councilman J.H. Graham suggested Thursday that a sign be placed on Highway 127.
“A sign might need to be done going North on 127 to take trucks off 127 and send them on the interstate,” Graham said. “Put them on the interstate and use the interstate as a perimeter around the city of Crossville for trucks.”
City officials said the truck traffic makes it harder for folks to park on Main Street and Mayor James Mayberry said Thursday that the truck traffic also poses a danger to pedestrians in the area.
“There is a lot more activity going on Main Street now. We don’t have any vacancies and you’ve got people walking all over the place, which is what we like to see,” Mayberry said. “We’ve got to enforce a way to deter the truck traffic.”
Graham said future road construction projects in the area only adds to the need for enforcement efforts.
City officials began discussing truck traffic enforcement during a city council retreat last month. The city council plans to continue discussions on the matter in the coming weeks and months.
