Crossville Fire and Rescue ranked among the top five in the state for data analysis out of almost 600 departments by the Tennessee Fire Marshal’s Office.
Chief Chris South said the department made a concentrated effort about two years ago to improve the recording and documentation of information. He said that effort, paired with employee buy-in is what made them so successful.
“I think it’s really given validity to our data,” South said. “And the ability that when we run an analysis and have to present information to our council or our citizens about the safety of our community and what’s actually happening we have good, valid information to draw from.”
South said with every call the department responds to, they do a report with information about the situation. He said that includes the nature of the call, what is involved, or the cause.
South said he is excited about the honor and proud of his staff for their efforts. He said to continue the momentum, they will keep evaluating their efforts and utilizing the computer program they invested in.
“And we’ll just try to train our personnel and our new staff as they come on board that we try to do a little better,” South said. “And we’re going to shoot even higher in the poll next year.”
