Crossville and Cumberland County will work on repairing part of Old Jamestown Highway that slid due to heavy rainfall over the weekend.
Crossville City Manager Greg Wood said the pavement slid where the roadway crosses over the Little Obed River.
“It’s actually on the line between the city and the county, and the good news for the city is the break is actually on the county side,” Wood said. “We are going to be working together, both the city and the county, to try and get that opened up as soon as possible. Right now we are just trying to get it stabilized so there’s no further damage, and that will take us a couple of days. Then we’ll get to work in earnest on getting the rest of the repairs done and the road back open.”
Crossville city officials ask motorists to seek alternative routes around Old Jamestown Highway near Hillcrest Drive if possible.
“We’ve got a solution for it, it’s just a question of executing and the time it’ll take to get it done,” Wood said. “It should go a little bit quicker because we have both the city and the county working on it. The main thing is for folks to [stay posted] on the city’s Facebook page. We’ll give you updates and estimates as the work progresses on when it might be back open.”
Wood said the culvert on the county’s side of the roadway failed and may have caused the road to slide. The city also repaired a culvert along Interstate Drive over the weekend due to heavy rainfall.
