Crossville Council Joins Roane State In Efforts To Expand Nursing Program

Crossville City Council donating $100,000 to Roane State as the campus raises funds to expand its nursing program.

Director Holly Hanson said the money will help build two additional classrooms and a lab at the Crossville campus.

“One of the most important things is that we will be able to provide local students to serve the local needs for nursing in the area,” Hanson said. “Once they’ve gone to other campus locations for their clinicals, we often don’t see them come back to the area.”

Hanson said 12 to 24 nursing students will be able to complete their education in Crossville once the project happens. Hanson said the project is in the approval process in Nashville while the architectural plans are reviewed by state leaders.

“The nursing program is a very competitive program, so adding nursing to the Cumberland campus will add many more seats for our local students,” Hanson said.

Hanson said the state has provided $1.7 million paying for the majority of the expansion. Hanson said a local portion is required to make the project happen. Hanson said Cumberland County has also assisted as well as several other local organizations.
