The Crossville City Council will consider adding an additional codes inspector to prepare for the Flatrock Motocross Park.
City Manager Greg Wood said the development will be added to an already busy codes department.
“We know Flatt Rock is going to make a good work load, and we know it’s going to take at least probably three to four months to even hire an inspector,” Wood said. “So, this is probably more of a budget amendment than we will even need.”
The budget amendment for the position is about $16,000. The Crossville City Council will consider the action for approval during its Tuesday meeting.
The project will be located off exit 338 of I-40. Concept plans call for hotels, restaurants, campgrounds and more to reach more than Motorsport fans.
Wood said the city considered adding the position in this year’s budget, but ultimately did not. Wood said the future work load called for a budget amendment to add a worker.
At the same time, Wood said the town of Pleasant Hill wants to take advantage of the extra worker. According to Wood, the town is considering ending its codes position and would like Crossville to take over the service.
“If they ask us to, we would actually have the personnel to be able to pick up the few that they have,” Wood said. “They don’t really grow over there, and we already do some inspections over there.”
Wood said the finances of the situation would need to be worked out before an inter-local agreement.
