Crossville City Council To Consider Marketing Firm For Rec Center Project

Crossville City Council will consider hiring a marketing firm next week to help survey residents and promote ideas for a new recreation center.

Council members discussed the idea at a Tuesday night work session with differing views. Some council members said it’s still too early to hire such a firm without the city’s firm commitment to such a facility. Others said the firm could help get feedback from residents on what they want and how much they want it. City Manager Greg Wood

“You kind of have to figure out what you’re going to market,” Wood said. “And right now, I see there’s a dichotomy between do we want a rec center that’s just going to serve the citizens of Crossville, or do we want something that’s going to be something for recreation, tourism, which is a different ballgame. And you’re going to have to market those two differently. And until you decide that, I don’t know that you necessarily want to proceed with marketing something that you haven’t nailed down.”

A group of citizens has been outspoken against the idea, citing the potential costs.
