Crossville City Council will discuss a host of topics at its retreat Tuesday morning.
The points of discussion will range from the care of their ballfields to the potential for their indoor rec center. City Manager Greg Wood said that it’s an opportunity for council members to explore options in a less formal, more intimate setting.
“You want to go into any decision, especially for the example the recreation center has the potential to cost $30 million,” Wood said. “You don’t want to go into something like that without exploring what all your options are, what’s the best way to approach it.”
Wood said that it’s hard to go in-depth with big ideas and decisions at just a two-hour work session. He said this retreat will also help them become a better informed and more cohesive council. Wood said he’s done retreats at several of previous jobs, and found that it’s a good practice to bring into Crossville council.
Wood said they plan on addressing other issues facing the community as well.
“We are going to have some things as far as airport, some of the things that need to happen there and some changes we want to make as far as lease agreements,” Wood said. “We want to talk about homeless issues, we want to talk about potentially updating our noise ordinance and how we may want to handle our arbor day program going forward.”
Wood said that in doing business like this in an informal setting, it allows council members to get a feel for things they want to talk about with their peers. He said that council members can learn if issues they want to talk about need to be tabled, or if its something they should do more research on and present it again to the council.
The council retreat will be at the Crossville depot from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
