The Crossville City Council has voted to begin discussions of a possible merger with the South Cumberland Utility District or SCUD.
Under the potential merger Vice Mayor J.H. Graham has proposed a $10 decrease in water rates in SCUD and a decrease in redundant capital in both the city and SCUD
Council member Danny Wyatt agreed.
“I’ve tried to find something wrong with it and I can’t find anything wrong with it,” Wyatt said. “This is a win for the city of Crossville and it’s a win for SCUD water users. I think it’s a good thing for everybody.”
With 4,600 customers, the $10 rate reduction would bring a $46,000 savings to customers per month and $552,000 per year.
The city will now begin immediate discussions with SCUD about the merger.
