The Cookeville Regional Birthing Center will offer birthing education classes for parents who are soon to be expecting.
CRMC Marketing and Communications Director Hannah Davis said the class will give a tour of the Birthing Center and also cover topics of pain management options, types of deliveries, postpartum care, and newborn care. Davis said the Birthing Center is offering the classes as knowing what to expect can make giving birth a less stressful experience.
“There’s a lot when you are talking about bringing a baby into the world,” Davis said. “So those you know, What do I do here? What do I do there? What should I expect here? We have birthing plans but what does that really look like so answering those questions and feeling comfortable is most important.”
Davis said the classes will also cover different feeding options including breastfeeding. Davis said the classes would be ideal for first-time parents.
“There’s a lot of things that you just do not know and you can learn about that prior to your baby coming and your due date,” Davis said. “So it’s a very important thing for our community that we want to offer and hopefully they will feel comfortable and love being here while being here.”
Davis said the birthing center has done classes for several years now but the classes exist as the center received multiple phone calls from parents requesting to tour the facilities.
“I think it just made sense as you get those requests from those phone calls coming that we provide an overall experience for those parents,” Davis said. “Those classes are again an option for them to come in and look at all of those things.”
Davis said there are two class options which consist of a $75 full-day option from 10am-3pm and the other is a $50 half-day option which is 10am-12pm. The next round of classes will happen on January 4th.
Davis said the classes will be held in the education center on the east side of the hospital next to the emergency room entrance. Davis said big brothers and big sisters are also welcome to attend and that if registered they will receive a swag bag and crafts to keep them occupied while the parents are in the class. Davis said people can register for the classes at CRMCHealth.Org.
