CRMC Cath Lab Construction Begins Next Week

Cookeville Regional set to begin construction on a new Cath Lab.

The 12-month project will replace the current lab one, built in 1993. Cookeville Regional Project Manager Scott Roder said his team plans carefully to avoid any disruptions to the patient rooms and emergency room facilities located above and below the lab.

“We do two week look aheads before we do anything,” Roder said. “One one of the things we look at for those are interruptions to utility services, noises, smells, things like that that might be generated. So we have a two week process for that.”

A mobile lab has been delivered and will be used until the construction is complete. The existing imaging equipment will be removed beginning next week. Then, demolition is scheduled for late February.

The new unit will be floor-mounted to allow for better access from medical personnel.

“The entire unit that’s going in will be virtually identical unit to the one that’s in the vascular lab now,” Roder said. “An arm, surgical lights and the equipment boom.”

CRMC CEO Paul Korth said the construction plan is a detailed one to move the process along. The total cost of the project: $3.27 million.
