Holiday shopping ramping up, but how do you decide on those final purchases that may be out of your range.
White County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent Mallory Christian said the best thing to do is to create a list of items you need before shopping. Christian said then budget accordingly so you know what items you can afford.
“It’s easy to stray away and spend more than you are planning to, but of course, follow your list,” Christian said. “You should be fine. you may have a few slips every now and again. Just don’t make slips more common than not.”
Christian said you should account for groceries, bills and other expenses while forming your shopping budget. Christian said it is important to know you can afford the basics before making a splash purchase.
Christian said she recommends looking at weekly sale ads or rebate apps that might save you a dollar. Christian said there is nothing wrong with using your credit card as long as you remain within your means.
