Apex Clean Energy suspended a plan to build a wind farm in Cumberland County.
Late Friday afternoon, Apex said market conditions had moved against the $100 million project in Crab Orchard.
The controversial project sparked numerous public meetings and an act by the state General Assembly.
Sen. Paul Bailey and Rep. Cameron Sexton sponsored a bill creating a committee to study other state’s laws on wind farms because of the project.
“Tennessee is one of four states in the nation that doesn’t have current regulations in place. We thought we’d never need regulations in regards to wind turbines,” Bailey said.
The bill also suspended all wind farm construction in Tennessee. It officially became law May 11.
