Authorities have identified a Cookeville woman who died in a crash near Crescent Drive Wednesday morning.
According to Cookeville Police, 73-year-old Donna Ashby was traveling southbound on Linnaeus Avenue when she left the roadway and struck a fence.
Ashby’s vehicle continued southbound, crossing Crescent Drive before striking a fallen tree. Authorities pronounced her dead at the scene.
CPD said it’s unclear as to whether Ashby suffered a medical event prior to her vehicle leaving the roadway. Her body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Nashville for an autopsy. Ashby’s dog was in the vehicle at the time of the accident but was uninjured.
The crash is still under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is encouraged to contact the CPD’s Traffic Enforcement Division.
