The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Announces The Availability Of Grant Dollars

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Announces The Availability Of Grant Dollars to assist cities, schools, community organizations, civic groups, watershed organizations, and conservation groups, etc., with riparian tree planting projects. All seedlings must be purchased through the Department of Agriculture, Division of Forestry. The funds will be obligated as grants, so the grantee must have a nonprofit tax number. The projects are to be completed, the money spent, and a report submitted by June 30, 2020. In order to meet this deadline, TWRA will accept proposals through Monday, Dec. 1, 2019. For additional information, interested persons may also contact a regional Aquatic Habitat Protection biologist.

Nashville – New Lung Cancer Screening Program Presented By The Tennessee Valley Healthcare System is now available. Veterans ages 55 to 80 who are current or former cigarette smokers may be eligible to participate in the new program at the TVHS
Nashville campus. The new program uses low-dose computed tomography (CT) scans for high-risk individuals to detect signs of lung cancer. High-risk Veterans are between 55 and 80 years old, current or former cigarette smokers who quit within the past 15 years and have a smoking history of at least 30 pack-years. The new program is currently offered at Nashville and will be available at the Alvin C. York campus in
Murfreesboro and other TVHS clinics later this year. Veterans who are interested should discuss the screening with their primary care provider or other healthcare provider.

Putnam County – Merry and Bright Holiday Home Challenge Presented by Cookeville Leisure Services and Upper Cumberland Association of Realtors registration is now open! The exterior decorating contest is open to single-family residences in Putnam County within a 10-mile radius of the Cookeville Courthouse Square. Categories include Most Colorful, Most Traditional and Most Animated. Participants may enter multiple categories but are eligible to win in only one. The fee is $10 per entry. The registration deadline is Nov. 26. Forms are available at the Leisure Services office at Cookeville City Hall, 45 E. Broad St., and UCAR, 1330 Neal St. Registration may also be completed at www.cookeville-tn.gov/ls or by calling 931-520-4386. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has created a fundraiser to raise support for Deputy Chris Lynn and his family as he continues to undergo multiple surgeries. Deputy Lynn was critically injured in a motor vehicle crash while responding to an emergency call.
