The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Announces The Availability Of Grant Dollars to assist cities, schools, community organizations, civic groups, watershed organizations, and conservation groups, etc., with riparian tree planting projects. All seedlings must be purchased through the Department of Agriculture, Division of Forestry. The funds will be obligated as grants, so the grantee must have a nonprofit tax number. The projects are to be completed, the money spent, and a report submitted by June 30, 2020. In order to meet this deadline, TWRA will accept proposals through Monday, Dec. 1, 2019. For additional information, interested persons may also contact a regional Aquatic Habitat Protection biologist.

Harper is a Sparta, Tennessee native and has become only the third Lady Vol head coach in the NCAA era of women’s basketball. Harper has been a head coach for the past 15 years with a record of 285-208. She is one of only 11 coaches to lead three different women’s programs to NCAA Tournament appearances.

2019 Muzzleloader Season For Deer Set To Open

The 2019 statewide muzzleloader/archery season for deer opens in Tennessee on Saturday, Nov. 9 and continues through Friday, Nov. 22 in all of Tennessee’s deer hunting units, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. Muzzleloading firearms of .36 caliber minimum, plus long bows, compound bows and crossbows are legal hunting equipment for this season. Hunters are also reminded that they must meet the blaze orange requirements while hunting. Resident hunters, ages 16 through 64 must possess in addition to other appropriate licenses, an annual big game license for the equipment used. Tennessee’s gun season for deer opens in units A, B, C, D, and L on the Saturday, Nov. 23. The season for gun/muzzleloader/archery will then continue through Jan. 5, 2020. Archery equipment is legal during muzzleloader and gun seasons. Muzzleloaders are legal during gun season.
