UCAAAD Offers SNAP Assistance

Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging and Disability (UCAAAD) is now offering application assistance with SNAP, formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, for adults 60 and over or individuals with a disability to provide eligible individuals with monthly benefits to buy food. Applicants 60 and over or an individual with a disability can now call the UCAAAD SNAP Benefits Coordinator at (931) 432-4111 for free and confidential application assistance.

Sparta – Virgin Falls Day Hike – Hosted By Virgin Falls Natural Area May 16 starting at 9am.

Join fellow hiker’s on the trail while exploring the Virgin Falls State Natural Area. Hiking along the Cumberland Plateau we will pass by Big Branch Falls, Big Laurel Falls, and the namesake Virgin Falls. If time allows the group, we will also check out Sheep Cave Falls, that’s on an additional .15 mile spur trail.
This will be a waterfall packed hike, that is one of the most unusual waterfalls in the southeast. This 9.0 mile out & back trail with an elevation gain of 1200 ft is rated as MODERATELY STRENUOUS.
The weather for Sunday March 16th is a high of 74 deg. Be sure to bring water & a lunch/snacks.
We will meet at Virgin Falls Trailhead Parking at 10:00 am EST.

For citizens of Jackson county commodities pick is available The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA) will hold a commodities distribution for DeKalb County on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the DeKalb County UCHRA office. Sign up will be available at the distribution site. This project is funded under a Grant Contract with the State of Tennessee.
