County, City Of Cookeville Teaming Up To Build Household Hazardous Waste Site

Putnam County and the City of Cookeville…teaming up to build a household hazardous waste site.

A recently awarded $480,000 non-matching grant will be used to construct the building at the city’s brush site on West Jackson Street.

“It’s all paid for by the state for us to construct this new building, “County Executive Randy porter said. “IN the past, we only had one time a year at the fairgrounds where you could bring hazardous chemicals to dispose of.”

The goal is to have everything completed by next June.

“We think we will be able to get everything going and have it ready before then,” porter said.

Monday night, the county’s fiscal review committee recommended approval for an interlocal agreement with the city to move the project forward. The full county commission will consider approving the measure on Monday.
