Cookeville City Council will consider a design and engineering agreement Thursday night for the proposed splash pad and playground at Cane Creek Park.
Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said the water feature would be constructed adjacent to the new pickleball courts under construction now. Additional parking and new restroom facilities would also be added.
“This gets us to the point where they can provide us with all of the site plan and the work and the engineering that needs to be done to build the splash pad that you’ve already reviewed,” Woods said. “And also expand the parking and the parking and the restroom facility and go ahead and do a, an area for a playground with this design. So we do have money budgeted for the design.”
Money to build the project earmarked in a proposed bond issue this year. Woods said construction could begin next year. This engineering agreement with Kimley Horn engineering would get the project ready to bid.
“This will go a long ways to meeting the long range plan for this portion of the park,” City Manager James Mills told the council during a Tuesday work session.
Woods said the expansion of this portion of the park was part of the long-term strategy outlined by Leisure Services. Council also asked Woods to begin looking at smaller-scale water features that could be added at multiple parks, after costs estimates for a large-scale aquatic facility came in too high last year.
Council will vote on the agreement Thursday.
