Council Approves Engineering Contract For Water Department

The Cookeville City Council approved an engineering contract Thursday night for a rehabilitation project at the water plant.

Water Department Director Ronnie Kelly said the work will take place within the solids handling facility at the wastewater treatment plant.

“We estimate that it’s going to be a $5 million project,” Kelly said. “The contract will replace one of the belt presses, do some work on some solids feed pumps, replace conveyors and pasteurization equipment.”

Kelly said this will be the third phase of a rehab project that’s been taking place at the plant over the past few years.

“We’ve had some previous projects recently,” Kelly said. “We had replaced the UV system in 2016 and we’re currently under contract to replace part of the headworks screening and it’s a $1 million project.” Kelly said.

Consolidates Technologies will provide the consulting engineering services for the project. The agreement with the company would cost about $555,500.

“They’ve done the other two projects down there,” Kelly said.

Kelly said he would like the entire project to be budgeted over the next two budget cycles.
