Tutco Inc. celebrated 50 years of business in Cookeville Friday.
The manufacturer produces heating elements found in central heating and air units as well as household dryers. Human Resources Director Angela Bruce said the business began in 1938 in Adrian, Michigan by the Tuttle family.
“They moved here in 1972 as Gould’s Industries, which henceforth Gould Drive where we are located,” Bruce said. “In 1978, the name changed to Tutco which is from the Tuttle company, so long history.”
Bruce said the long success is credited to the workers of the company. Bruce said Tutco today employees about 250 people in the Upper Cumberland area.
“It comes back to being a true family, taking care of each other and always doing what is right,” Bruce said. “That is the motto of Tutco.”
The company held a ribbon cutting event commemorating the anniversary. A mixture of retirees, current employees and community leaders such as Mayor Randy Porter were in attendance.
