Cookeville’s Merry And Bright Contest Registration Open

Registrations for Cookeville’s Merry and Bright Holiday Home Challenge now open.

Leisure Services Recreation Programmer Sally Herren said the annual event encourages homes within a 15-mile radius to help the community spread holiday cheer.

“It’s a tradition for not just those people who those people who decorate their homes and enter the contest,” Herren said. “But a tradition for those in the community to grab that tour of lights map, and get in the car with your hot chocolate and snacks, and go around and see all the Christmas lights in the community.”

Herren said this year’s program will see a few changes. She said while there will still be categories, judges will be giving more awards based on how homes have utilized decor.

Herren said judges will be looking at houses decorated with traditional lights, animatronics, and the use of music and technology.

“In previous years it’s been really hard to judge each home based upon the category that they’ve entered in,” Herren said. “So this year we’re going to give awards based on how we see they have fulfilled the decor or the themed or the technology, kind of like superlatives.”

If you’re going to register, Herren said it’s a one-time $10 entry fee. She said the deadline to register is November 24th.
