The Brown Bag Series makes its return Friday with a concert and lunch at Cookeville’s Depot Museum.
Leisure Services has a series of performances scheduled during lunch hour every Friday of October with Blue Coast Burrito available for purchase. Cultural Arts Superintendent Chad McDonald said bluegrass and folk artist Mean Mary will kick off this year’s event.
“We have been doing everything we can during this pandemic to continue with our regular programming, keeping social distancing in mind and keeping everyone’s safety in mind,” McDonald said. “Outdoor concerts seem to be the easiest to make that happen.”
McDonald said 50 seats are available, but people may bring their own sitting. Lunch will be served starting at 11:00 a.m. with performances starting 30 minutes after.
“The Brown Bag Lunch Concerts are sponsored by the Cookeville Department of Leisure services,” McDonald said. “But, they are funded in part by the Cookeville Arts COuncil as well.”
On the 9th, Nashville native Rachel Cole will perform her folk music, and on the 16th, Ridin’ the Rails will perform songs relating to trains in a folk, bluegrass and nostalgic rock style. McDonald said the last performance is unknown at this time.
“From country to bluegrass to jazz, there is something for every taste,” McDonald said. “The depot serves as the perfect backdrop for the performers.”
Lunch is typically served until 12:30 p.m. with performances lasting until 1:00 p.m. The Cookeville Depot Museum is located at 116 W. Broad St. For more information, call 931-520-4386.
