Cookeville Water Quality Control Department trying to streamline the process for pump station and equalization basin work.
Director Barry Turner said that the city currently has two similar projects on the docket, including work on a TTU pump station and EQ basin, as well as an EQ basin north of I-40.
“Just the amount of money we can save doing them both at the same time is worth it,” Turner said. “We do have a separate contract for the I-40 EQ basin, but instead of amending both of them and having to do different designs, we’d just do both of them. They’re the same thing just with a little different configuration.”
Turner said that streamlining the design process would save the city about 10 percent of the project cost. He said it would subsequently get both projects set up to be ready to bid.
However, with the current climate of costs and labor, Turner said that they would probably have to bid on one project first and the other at a separate time. Turner said that the engineering firm hopes to have the preliminary engineering and design report completed by April or May.
