Cookeville officials unveiled the preliminary design for the city’s new skate park Tuesday.
Skating enthusiast Andy Hill said he has no complaints about the designs, which were put together by Seattle Washington-based Grindline Skateparks.
“I knew they were going to do a great job, but they went over and above in what I expected. It’s going to be a really cool park,” Hill said. “It’s gonna probably outdo Metro Nashville and Knoxville and be a destination location for skateboarders to come from surrounding areas and other states.”
The park will be located at the old Park View Pool.
Cookeville Leisure Services Director Rick Wood said the city will receive final designs in January, which will have to be approved by the appropriate entities.
“We hope to have this out to bid in March and then we will start construction shortly thereafter and hopefully have it up and ready to skate by mid to late summer,” Wood said.
The project being funded by an $800,000 Local Parks and Recreation Fund Grant.
